Today we passed the Green Tree and saw that there was an apricot punch, a sausage roll, gingerbread etc. to go. We treated ourselves to a punch and a sausage roll with it. Both very recommendable. We'd love to come back :-)
Great inn with friendly staff and a super fine, creative kitchen! We'll be back soon !!!
Super delicious, creative fresh cuisine with seasonal products in a rustic, modern ambience
Pleasant courteous service staff. The kitchen, however, is so deep that it is almost criminal! The starter was a wonderfully creamy Aldente risotto. The main courses (boiled beef steak in red wine jus with chanterelles and mashed potatoes, salmon trout on vegetables) were the best. The various gentle cooking methods intensify the taste so great that we were annoyed that we were there for the first time. The menu offered in the Grüner Baum is small but lovely. Best German cuisine in Passau. Thanks to the host who cooks there!
More like a restaurant than an inn. Spiced up traditional recipes. Nice young hosts.
A new star in the gastro sky ... Actually, all we wanted to do from our hotel was a quick nightcap nearby. Well, then in the "Wirtshaus Zum Grünen Baum". Nothing special on the last visits, but then ... freshly renovated, refurbished and the best: a new host! When looking at the food and drink menu, it wasn't just a nightcap. The young landlord and chef at the same time has returned after years in 5 * hotels and gourmet restaurants to set up his own business. And that's a good thing and a huge benefit for Passau and everyone who loves good food but also a good drink! The menu is kept small in a positive sense, ambitious, with a regional touch and changes every month. As it should be in a good Bavarian inn, there is of course a snack menu until 5 p.m. Perfect when the weather is nice and you can not only enjoy yourself in Höllgasse, Passau's Künstlergasse, but also watch people at the tables outside. What makes the kitchen, and thus also the chef, so pleasant is the freshness and high quality of the products used (convenience is an absolute no go), the regionality of the same and, above all, the skill of the host. So a happy connection and the best, the price is right too. You should definitely try the homemade malt bread. Neither in Passau nor anywhere else is there a bakery with bread with this taste. Just add a piece of butter and then it's bread heaven on earth. Conclusion: "Zum Grünen Baum", a must for every gourmet in Passau.
Shady spots in Höllgasse. The homemade malt bread is very tasty
Excellent cook revisiting the Bavaria cuisine thanks to his international high-level cuisine experience. Try the aubergine... A revelation to me. The chef is very friendly and like to exchange with the customers, this makes this Wirthaus special.
Tasty, lovingly prepared food, regional cuisine that stands out from the typical brewery culture. Price-performance ratio also fits. Very nice, cozy atmosphere
If you want to eat really well in Passau's old town and don't feel like mass processing in tourist quality at high prices, then you've come to the right place. First-class quality, regional ingredients if possible, personally prepared by the boss, excellent taste. The beef sirloin from the Passau cattle was incredibly tender. The salads were also very tasty and the Wiener Schnitzel as it should be: thin, fried in the pan. It's nice that there is such a restaurant in Passau. The service was also extremely friendly. In summary: it couldn't be better. We'll be back for sure, even though we live in Munich.
Were repeatedly in the green tree today. We had a sirloin of beef from the Passau pasture with a refined alpine chicory, paprika vegetables and rosemary potatoes as well as an original Viennese Beuscherl with napkin dumplings, which in short was a pure delicacy for the palate. Here you immediately notice that high-quality, fresh and regional food is prepared with love, based on excellent craftsmanship. The chef, who is also the owner, places high demands on quality and customer satisfaction. You can tell that he lives his job. This is not only reflected optically and in terms of taste on the plate. He inquires personally about the well-being of his guests. The service is friendly and courteous. No matter whether in the lovingly designed guest rooms or outdoors in the picturesque Höllgasse: you feel in good hands and culinary desires are left unfulfilled. Nice that there is such an upscale restaurant at absolutely fair prices in Passau. We are already looking forward to the next visit! Star suspect !!
On a day trip to Passau and accidentally discovered this inn. Seated in the small alley outside. We ordered corn chicken breast with kukuruz and Wiener schnitzel with potato salad. We were thrilled: beautifully presented, excellent taste, especially the sauce with the corn chicken was an experience. We were also impressed by the great courteous service. Not to forget: there are spirits from the Liebl distillery in Bad Kötzting. We look forward to another visit. Highly recommended!
The boss personally greets you in front of the restaurant. This is very rare. The staff is also very friendly. The food is highly recommended and was delicious. :) Will definitely come again :)
Very tasty and nice atmosphere, idyllic terrace. We will be back!
The green tree is a great place to eat. The dishes are beautifully presented and the taste is an experience. I celebrated my wedding there. Everything was tailored to my wishes and the process was smooth. With the new snack menu, sitting in Höllgasse outdoors is even more fun. For those who want to eat very well, even in larger groups, the Green Tree is only recommended.
Very good food, high quality and nice atmosphere at reasonable prices.
Was at a wedding party in the Green Tree two days ago. The food was presented perfectly, the taste was even more perfect !!!!! The staff absolutely courteous and friendly! Was there again yesterday and ate once again !!!! All thumbs up !!!! Highly recommended.
Had a perfect evening at the inn by the green tree. Flori is a super friendly and competent host. He is at your side with advice and action. On request, he can provide information and advice about the dishes on his menu. The menu I put together with him was top class as was the selection of drinks. Passau is definitely worth a trip, but only perfect if you have come to the green tree in the tavern. I will make another WE trip to Passau next year and am already looking forward to the delicious food. Thanks again to Flori and his nice crew. LG Pitt Vaessen
We walked through town this afternoon and met the friendly young man who later turned out to be the innkeeper. We had dinner here and the dishes were to our complete satisfaction and tasted an experience. In addition, the atmosphere was honest and extremely pleasant. A must for every Passau visitor. Have fun and enjoy yourself.
This place is very special. The cook prepares the dishes with love and above all with excellent background knowledge. He attaches great importance to the quality of his products and creates even exceptional dishes. The dessert with lemon sorbet and basil powder combined with a very special vodka was so excellent that I didn't want to have any other taste. We will visit this restaurant more often!
We stopped in to eat here last week and my husband is now ruined for schnitzel! Theirs was spectacular, as large as a dinner plate, fresh and crisp. It came with abundant fries as well. Our waitress was engaging and suggested a wine (her favourite) as well as directing me to the pan fried fish (because the cod I'd chosen was a frozen product). The food was fresh and made to order. Her suggested wine was crisp and clean. While we were waiting for our food she offered us a book about the flood of 2013. We will be talking about this lunch for years to come...always looking for a schnitzel that compares!
Nice place in Höllgasse. Tasty food at fair prices and friendly service. No tourist rip off but down to earth and good (no organic). Locals also eat here. Accessible toilet. Full points.

Good value food and beer in a nice shady spot with a pleasant welcome.
